Discerning Dozen Cocktail Hour

Those who have been to Trattoria Stella over the last year have likely seen an increase in our craft distilled spirits, which naturally enhanced an already aggressive cocktail program for a restaurant of our type. These improvements can in no small part be attributed to the education and efforts of long time Stella employees and professional bartenders Abigail Steffens and Brandon Chamberlain. Together, they will present this first in what we hope will be a series highlighting the best ingredients including Michigan spirits expertly crafted into cocktails.

For us, the ingredients in our cocktails are as important as they are in our food. And, whether enjoying a cocktail prepared by a professional bartender or making one for yourself at home; the craft—the ritual—of mixing each of those ingredients in precise proportion and using methods that honor the integrity of the spirits is essential to maximizing the enjoyment of each sip.

Discerning Dozen format:
4 classic cocktails made with standard ingredients like?
1. Gin and Tonic
2. Cuba Libra
3. Manhattan
4. Old Fashioned

those 4 then crafted with Journeyman spirits and fresh ingredients
then a custom craft cocktail “riffing” off the classics and featuring Journeyman spirits
That equals twelve expertly prepared cocktails for each participant to sample (a sip will suffice) and compare. Additionally, each cocktail will be prepared directly in front of participants. Abbie and Brandon will offer detailed descriptions of each component—be it procedural (i.e. muddling) or an ingredient)—while Simon presents the line-up of Journeyman spirits. In addition to the “show” and samples of each of the twelve cocktails, each participant will receive a recipe book.
